01 — Visa check

Can my visa work part-time?

Your visa name alone is not enough. Immigration, your school, your Korean ability, and the actual job all matter before you start.

D-2

Student visa

Degree students can usually apply for part-time permission after school confirmation.

Eligibility
D-2 degree students commonly need good academic standing, school confirmation, and Korean or approved language proof. D-2-8 visiting students may face a 6-month wait.
Hours
Common guide: undergraduate students often see 10-25 weekday hours; graduate students often see 15-30 weekday hours. Some students with language requirements met may receive wider weekend or vacation allowance.
Careful
Do not work at a different place, different duty, or higher hours than approved.
D-4

Language training

Language students usually face stricter conditions before they can work.

Eligibility
D-4-1 and similar language trainees usually need at least 6 months after entry or status change, strong attendance, school confirmation, and Korean ability proof.
Hours
Common guide: 10 hours per week without the language requirement, and up to about 25 hours when the required Korean level is met, depending on school and immigration review.
Careful
Apply early. Some schools require documents before they sign the confirmation form.
D-10

Job seeking

D-10 is not a normal student part-time route.

Eligibility
Some D-10-1 cases may be allowed only under special conditions. Confirm with 1345 or immigration before accepting any paid work.
Hours
Do not rely on D-2 or D-4 hour rules. Your approved activity scope controls what you can do.
Careful
A wrong job can affect future status change or extension, so confirm first.

02 — Weekly hours

How many hours can I work?

These are common guide ranges for student part-time permission. The final approved hours come from your school confirmation and immigration approval.

Permission controls everything

Approved hours beat app promises

If a job post says 'weekend full-time' or 'many hours available', you still must follow the hours written in your immigration permission.

Language proof matters

TOPIK, KIIP, or accepted alternatives can change your limit

Students who do not meet the language requirement often receive lower weekday limits, even if the employer wants more hours.

2026 wage check

Minimum wage is ₩10,320/hour

Use this as a first salary check for 2026. Also confirm weekly holiday pay, break time, and whether deductions are explained.

03 — Permission first

Get permission before the first shift

Do not start with training, trial work, or cash pay before approval. Prepare the job and school documents first, then apply through Hi Korea or immigration.

  1. 1

Check your visa and school rule

Ask your school office what they require for part-time confirmation. If your case is unclear, call 1345 before applying.

  2. 2

Get the contract and employer documents

The job must have clear wage, workdays, hours, workplace, and duties. The employer usually provides business registration and ID copy.

  3. 3

    Receive school confirmation

Your school checks whether the job, hours, attendance, grades, and visa conditions fit before signing the student part-time work confirmation.

  4. 4

Apply through Hi Korea or immigration

Submit the documents online or by visit. Hi Korea lists 10 days as the general processing time, so prepare before the start date.

  5. 5

    Start only after approval

After approval, work only at the approved workplace, for the approved period, duties, and hours. Report changes before switching jobs.

04 — Documents

What documents should I prepare?

The exact list can change by school and immigration office, but these are the documents most students should expect.
